Sleep Medicine

Sleep medicine is commonly used in dentistry to reduce symptoms of sleep-disordered breathing, including obstructive sleep apnea. As an AADSM Qualified Dentist, Dr. Svetanoff is proud to offer treatment options such as NightLase® and Oral Appliance Therapy.

Nightlase®

NightLase® is a non-surgical, gentle laser treatment that helps reduce snoring and improve sleep quality. The Fotona laser works by tightening the tissues in the throat and airway, which helps to reduce snoring and open up the airways. This procedure is performed without the need for anesthesia and involves no downtime, making it a convenient option for patients struggling with sleep-related breathing issues. It is commonly used as an alternative to CPAP machines.

This procedure is done in multiple sessions, starting with a minimum of 3 sessions. After the initial 3 sessions, Dr. Emily will assess the need for additional treatment. Each session must be exactly 21 days apart for the procedure to be effective.

In most cases of treatment for sleep disordered breathing, patients and Dr. Emily work in conjunction with your sleep physician to monitor progress and regularly assess overall health.

Oral Appliance Therapy

Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) is a non-invasive treatment for patients who suffer from sleep disordered breathing and related issues. It involves wearing a custom-made device, similar to a mouthguard, while you sleep. The appliance gently repositions the jaw to keep the airway open, reducing or eliminating snoring and interruptions in breathing caused by sleep apnea.

Oral Appliance Therapy is a comfortable and effective alternative to CPAP machines for many patients. It’s easy to use, travel-friendly, and custom-fitted for maximum comfort. By improving airflow during sleep, it helps enhance the quality of your sleep, leaving you more rested and energized during the day.
